CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Franklyn Pineyro’s trip to buy Lottery tickets ended with him dead near the checkout lines at Publix in Coral Gables, police said. He was 50.
Video released Friday shows the fight between Pineyro and Osmel Lugo-Gutierrez that preceded the fatal shooting in 2022.
Lugo-Gutierrez, 51, contested the shooting was in self-defense, but detectives said he approached Pineyro from behind as the two waited in line.
According to detectives, the surveillance video shows Lugo-Gutierrez near a shopping cart when Pineyro lunged at him with his left arm extended.
Lugo-Gutierrez lifted his shirt, pulled out a 9mm Glock from his waistband, and fired at Pineyro, striking him once in the chest, according to police.
